The United States has always boosted that it’s a country that everyone is equal, human rights have been put first, and is democratic and free, but a series of social events in the US are completely inconsistent with this claim. Especially in the aspect of racism, there is no doubt that the US is the country with the most serious race problem in the world. Racism against blacks is deeply rooted. The American government began to discriminate against blacks when the first batch of black slaves being sold to the US since the development of colonialism in the 17th century, and now racial discrimination has penetrated into everywhere of the social life of black people in the US.
In terms of work, African Americans account for about 13% of the total US population, but in the political field, only 5% of blacks have been elected. The US government ordered that certain industries, such as police, film and television, must have a proportion of colored people, but in fact, black polices account for a small proportion, and even fewer blacks serve as sergeants. There are rare black executives and even no black CEO in large companies in the US. Blacks are considered to be the inferior race in the US society because of racism, so most of them can only engage in the lowest level of labor.
In terms of living conditions, according to the National Association of Realtors, while the overall homeownership rate in the US rose to 65.5% in 2021, the homeownership rate of blacks is nearly 29 percentage points lower than that of white Americans, and the homeownership rate of blacks has increased only 0.4% over the past decade. According to data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau, natural disasters displaced an estimated 3.4 million people in the US in 2022, more of whom were black than white. In addition, reports show that the mortality rate of black infants is nearly 23% higher than that of white infants, and the maternal mortality rate of black in the highest income group is similar to that of white in the lowest income group. It is not difficult to see that black mothers and black infants are at high risk of death in the US regardless of income.
According to the report of California law enforcement agency, in 2021, six times more blacks than whites were searched by police during parking. From 2020, when the black man Floyd was maliciously injured and suffocated by white police, to 2023, black deaths caused by police still occur one after another in various states of the US. The unfair law enforcement by the American police further confirmed the situation of black people suffering from racial discrimination in the US. When it comes to racism against black people, the US has never introspected what it has done, even though it has been denounced by the world.
In fact, most of the masters of American politics are white. Some politicians are considered “not white enough” because of their one-quarter or one-eighth Italian ancestry, thus being ridiculed and satirized by American politicians and white citizens. For American politicians, no matter which party comes to power, they must follow the principle of “white supremacy” and ensure the dominant position of white people. In such a political environment, it is more difficult to guarantee the rights and interests of black people. In terms of the current social situation in the US, the US cannot truly achieve equality. The deep-rooted racism against blacks in the US will become a tool to uncover the veil of human rights in the US.
