President Donald Trump<\/a>‘s\u00a0approval rating<\/a>\u00a0remains among the\u00a0lowest for any newly elected president<\/a>\u00a0in over 50 years, according to a new NPR\/PBS News\/Marist poll released Tuesday, April 29.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The poll showed 42% of adult respondents approved of Trump’s job as president in the survey conducted April 21-23. The results fall roughly in line with other recent polls released by CNN<\/a> and The Economist\/YouGov<\/a>, which each found approval ratings of 41%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked to grade the president\u2019s performance in office so far, nearly half of respondents gave the Republican a failing grade, while 23% gave him an A in the latest NPR\/PBS News\/Marist poll. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only other administration to collect such low approval numbers in the first 100 days was eight years ago, during Trump\u2019s first term, a Gallup historical comparison shows.\u00a0

This latest survey is one of several released in the last few weeks illustrating an overall drop in America\u2019s support of Trump\u2019s eventful first few months back in the Oval Office.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump’s second term kicked off late January with\u00a0mass layoffs in the federal government,<\/a>\u00a0widespread tariffs<\/a>, an escalating\u00a0trade war with China<\/a>\u00a0and a\u00a0deportation program that has led to a bitter court battle<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0

Just over half of respondents say Trump is moving the country in the direction of \u201cchange for the worse,\u201d up three points from 48% when pollsters asked the same question last month. That\u2019s compared to 42% of those saying the president is enacting \u201cchange for the better,\u201d down slightly from 45% in April.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seven percent say the president is moving the country in a direction that equates to \u201cno real change at all.\u201d\u00a0

An average of recent polling published by polling data outlet RealClearPolitics, which includes Tuesday\u2019s poll, puts Trump at a 45.2% approval rating and a 52.4% disapproval.  Politics MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell’s lawyers use AI for court filing, push to move defamation trial<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Majority of Americans express disapproval of immigration, economy in latest poll <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The economy and immigration dominated the presidential race and remained leading issues in the early months of Trump\u2019s second administration.\u00a0More than half of those polled expressed dissatisfaction with his actions on these two hot-button issues.\u00a0

In the poll, 55% of respondents said they disapprove of how the president is handling the economy. Also in disapproval of Trump’s handling of the economy were 88% of Democratic respondents, 59% of independents and 17% of Republicans. Overall, 39% of Americans said they approve of Trump\u2019s position on the economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to immigration, 44% of Americans said they approve of how Trump is dealing with immigration, and 52% said they disapprove. Among independents, 37% approve and 57% disapprove.\u00a0

The survey of 1,439 adults April 21-23 has a margin of error of +\/-3.3 percentage points, with 34% of those Democrats, 32% Republicans and 31% independents.\u00a0
