{"id":4147,"date":"2024-04-30T22:50:11","date_gmt":"2024-05-01T05:50:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abovecloud.xyz\/?p=4147"},"modified":"2024-04-30T22:50:30","modified_gmt":"2024-05-01T05:50:30","slug":"arrests-at-columbia-university-as-new-york-city-police-clear-gaza-protest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abovecloud.xyz\/?p=4147","title":{"rendered":"Arrests at Columbia University as New York City police clear Gaza protest"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>After entering the site shortly after 9pm on Tuesday (01:00 GMT on Wednesday), some officers approached Hamilton Hall, the administration building that students began occupying early on Tuesday morning after the management said it had begun suspending students who had refused to meet a previous deadline to disperse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"513\" src=\"https:\/\/abovecloud.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/image-16.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abovecloud.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/image-16.png 770w, https:\/\/abovecloud.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/image-16-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/abovecloud.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/image-16-768x512.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They had renamed the building \u201cHind\u2019s Hall\u201d, in memory of six-year-old Palestinian girl\u00a0Hind Rajab\u00a0who was killed in Gaza in February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re clearing it out,\u201d police in a riot unit yelled as they marched up to the barricaded entrance to the building, while dozens more officers moved on the main protest camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Columbia Students for Justice in Palestine said in a post on X that the police officers were \u201cwearing riot gear\u201d and that \u201cmultiple blocks have been barricaded off\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A long line of police officers were seen climbing into the building via a ladder extended from the top of a truck into a second-storey window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortly afterwards, officers were seen leading multiple protesters, their hands tied behind their backs with plastic zip ties, to police vehicles outside the campus gates. Between 30 and 40 people were taken from Hamilton Hall, the Associated Press reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFree, free, free Palestine!\u201d chanted protesters outside the building.
